More about us

Since retiring from SFU in 2013, Don MacLachlan has done contract work on media relations and social media for clients including the BC government, the BC Liberal Party, Clean Energy BC, and the Resource Works think-tank on responsible development of BC's natural resources.

Before joining SFU in 2006, he was director of public relations for Fraser Health, B.C.'s largest and fastest-growing public health authority. And before that, he was associate director of communication for B.C.'s unique Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform.

After five years as managing editor of The Province newspaper (1988-92), Don became the founding editor of the websites of The Vancouver Sun and The Province. Then he became director of communications for The Vancouver Sun, The Province and Pacific Press (now Pacific Newspaper Group, a division of Postmedia Network Inc.)

He left Pacific Newspaper Group in 2003 and founded Clarity Communications.

He is a past president of the Vancouver chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society, and also served on its board as director of ethics. Don has taught PR classes at Langara College and guest-lectured at Douglas College. He has been a member of the PR advisory committee at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and is a member of a similar committee at Simon Fraser University.

He sat for three years as a director of the B.C. Press Council. And he has three times been a judge for the Jack Webster awards for journalism.
